About Your Child’s School Physical
It is recommended that your child undergoes a physical checkup each year before going back to school or participating in a sport to make sure they are healthy and well, and it some states like Florida, it is mandatory.
The school or sport physical, or pre-participation exam, covers many areas including:
- Your child’s medical history
- A physical examination of your child
- A review of family medical history which may effect your child’s health
The goals of school and sports physicals are to determine your child’s general health, current fitness level, risk of injury, and overall physical well-being. This school and sports physical allows a doctor to identify any conditions that might prohibit your child from effectively participating in their desired sport or activity.
In addition to the physical exam, a medical history form covering questions about serious family illnesses, hospitalizations, past injuries, and your child’s overall health will need to be filled out.
